About Shenandoah, Texas
Shenandoah is a community on Interstate Highway 45 nine miles south of Conroe in Southern Montgomery County. It’s typical for bedroom communities that have proliferated northward since the 1960s, as it lies near one such development known originally as Shenandoah Valley. When the community was incorporated, it attracted large numbers of Houstonians seeking lower real estate prices and tax rates. It became known as Shenandoah in 1974 because its boundaries included much land that is currently within The Woodlands area, Texas, including a commercial center there.
By the late 1970s, Shenandoah had an estimated population of 876. But by 1980 it grew to 1,793, even though there were some regional setbacks during this period that caused a small downswing in growth for their townspeople. In 1990 they hovered around 1,718 people, then 2000 came along with its decrease back below 1,503.
